The Information We Collect at the Start of a Claim and Why It Matters

A clear explanation of why Chariot collects specific personal details during signup and how this information helps us verify your eligibility, ensure compliance, and fight for the best possible outcome.

Know Your Rights

Personal information requests can feel intrusive, especially when you're filing a consumer protection claim. Many people wonder why Chariot requests details such as household size, income, address, last four digits of your social security number, and date of birth when you are submitting a claim verification form during our intake process.

The purpose for collecting this information lies with the arbitration system's eligibility rules. Your answers help us determine whether your claim can be filed properly, if it is eligible under relevant statutes of limitation, and whether compensation can ultimately reach you.

At Chariot, our approach is straightforward: collect only what is necessary to meet legal requirements, explain why it matters, and ensure the process is transparent. Continue reading below for why we capture each piece of information, and what it means for you.

Income and Household Size

These questions appear early during the intake process. We may ask questions like:

β€œWhat is your household size?”

β€œWhat is your current monthly income?”

These questions may seem irrelevant, but they help to determine whether you qualify for an automatic waiver of arbitration filing fees through the American Arbitration Association. For many people, income status makes the entire claims process free to initiate.

Because such fee waivers exist and are based on federal poverty guidelines, household size and income information should be accurate to ensure your claim is processed correctly and avoid any administrative delays. We want to make submitting a claim as accessible as possible and aim to use available fee waivers wherever they may apply, as they exist for the purpose of making arbitration more accessible.

Address

You may also be asked to enter your mailing address. This is primarily for practical reasons. During the life of a claim, Arbitrators and law firms sometimes need to send official notices by mail. If compensation is owed to you, a verified address ensures payments or legal documents reach you without interruptions.

Providing an address is often part of a standard requirement across arbitration associations for claim submission. Providing an address keeps your claim fully compliant and ready to move forward.

Date of Birth

Most arbitration associations also require that the individual signing claim forms is over eighteen. Confirming your age allows us to verify that you meet the age requirement for claim submission and are legally able to authorize representation. This information ensures that your claim can be filed without challenge.

Last 4 of Social Security Number

We ask for the last four digits of your Social Security number on intake to help verify your identity and ensure your claim is tied to the correct person. The last four digits alone do not provide enough information for identity theft, and Chariot will never ask for your full Social Security number. We do not request any sensitive information beyond what is legally necessary to advance your claim.

Why Accuracy Matters

It is smart to ask questions about each piece of information we collect, as it is always important to protect your personal information. As outlined above, every detail you share with Chariot during the intake process plays a specific role in:

  • confirming eligibility

  • connecting your Chariot account to the correct records

  • ensuring our legal teams can act on your behalf

Arbitration routes are often streamlined and efficient, yet it still depends on this precise information to stay compliant with procedural rules. Our Commitment to Transparency

We know sharing personal information requires trust. At Chariot, our goal is to remove friction in the claims-filing process, handle everything behind the scenes, and help you move through the process well-informed and with confidence.

If something doesn't make sense or you want to clarify before submission, you can email us anytime at support@chariotclaims.com.

Clear expectations and transparency are how we build trust and deliver real outcomes for everyday people.
