Everyday Evidence You Already Have
When you hear “evidence,” you might imagine dusty court files, lawyer letters with intimidating seals, or a dramatic “Exhibit A.”
The reality? You probably already have what you need to support a consumer protection claim—right in your inbox or camera roll. Screenshots, emails, and receipts are often enough to prove deceptive marketing, misleading emails, extra fees, or data breaches.
Examples of Evidence in Consumer Protection Cases
Here’s how it breaks down:
Hidden / Junk Fees→ A screenshot of the receipt or a bank statement usually does the job.
Data Breach → An email from the company about the data breach or a “new login detected” alert usually counts as evidence.
Deceptive Pricing or Misleading Marketing → Before-and-after screenshots, emails stating false claims, or receipts help show what actually happened.
Not sure if something counts? No problem. Submit anyway—our team will flag if something extra is required. Spoiler - a lot of times it isn’t.
Quick Tips for Collecting Evidence
Save important emails.
Take screenshots when something looks suspicious.
Keep documents in a convenient place that you won't delete or lose—even a “Weird Charges” photo album on your phone counts.
By preserving these simple pieces of evidence, you strengthen your legal claim, protect your consumer rights, and make it easier to hold companies accountable for deceptive practices.
